803 & 804:

Presentation: Un drapeau de la francophonie

Tuesday, February 26: Three items due: 1. Drawing of the flag  2. Written work in complete sentences (to achieve a level 4, add some interesting facts about the country)  3. Oral presentation: memorized. 
Note: The written aspect of the project will be longer than the oral presentation. The oral presentation must include: the name of the country, the capital, the continent and the population. It must be memorized. Look up how to say the population in French.
Students will complete a listening activity while listening to the presentations - for a mark in listening.

Also this week:
Read the text, "C'est quoi, la francophonie?" and answer questions.
Watch the video, "Parle-t-on français ailleurs dans le monde?" and answer questions.

Friday, March 1: signed permission slips for course selection due. 804: Hand in to Mme Guillouzic.
803: Hand in to Mme Jackson.

Review of regular -er verbs in the present tense.

Project: Un drapeau de la francophonie.
Due: Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Three parts:
1. written (either on lined paper or in a Google doc)
2. drawing of the flag on 11" x 17" paper (coloured)
3. oral presentation (must be memorised)

Friday: Reading: text on "la francophonie" and comprehension questions. (Update: to be completed the week of February 25.)

Important dates:
Thursday, February 21: parent-teacher interviews, and info session on course selection for grade 9.
Friday, March 1: signed permission slips for course selection due. 804: Hand in to Mme Guillouzic.

French:

803: This week, practice the use of prepositions: à, au, en & aux, before cities, provinces and countries.  Start practice of the use of venir de + préposition. For example, Je viens du Canada
Work sheet on prepositions due Thursday, February 14.

Start project on Le drapeau de la francophonie. Bring coloured pencils to class on Thursday and Friday.

804: Present un canadien noir and complete listening activity.
Update: Finish the grammar sheet: "Venir de + lieu géographique". Due Tuesday, February 19.

Important dates:
Thursday, February 14: report cards go home.
Thursday, February 21: parent-teacher interviews; info session for parents about course selection at 7pm. Teachers from student services gave presentations to the students this week about the course selection process.
Friday, March 1: Course selection sheets due (803 hands in course selections sheets to Mme Jackson; 804 hands in their sheets to Mme Guillouzic)

803 & 804: French

February is Black History Month. Février est le mois de l'histoire des noirs.

Work this week:
803 (Monday, Thursday), 804 (Thursday, Friday):

Practice asking and answering questions while correctly using prepositions before cities,provinces and countries: à, au, en, aux. Research a Black Canadian or a person who has played a part in Canadian history or society. Present this person to the class. Listening activity to accompany.

804: La francophonie et les prépositions (Wednesday)
Present your mind map/brainstorm of la francophonie. Continue practice with prepositions before places (à, au, en, aux).

Listening activity: L'histoire des noirs
803: Friday
804: Friday or next week

Important dates:
Thursday, February 7: Sweater day - Journée de la petite laine. Wear an extra sweater because the heat will be turned down at school!


All overdue work must be passed in by Friday, February 8, at the very latest in order to receive credit for term 1. Work cannot be accepted after this date. Report cards go home next week: Thursday, February 14.
