Presentations this week.
Practice at home... you will feel more comfortable with the material!

Share your Google Slide presentation at: monique.guillouzic@ocsb.ca to project it on the white board.

Overdue work:
Marks for report cards will be due at the end of January. All outstanding work must be passed in by Monday, January 14 - one week after the return from Christmas holidays.

Incomplete work will bring down a student's average on the report card. If you want to work on assignments during the lunch hour, please speak to Mme Guillouzic. There is usually a work session on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Merry Christmas and enjoy your holidays! We will be finishing the book La valise d'Hana in January and then starting a unit on La francophonie.

Monday, December 3 - Friday, December

803 & 804 French:

Project: "La valise d'Hana"
Due date: 803: Monday, December 17
804: Tuesday, December 18

Project: Students must choose a topic connected to the time period of the book (1930s-1940s: World War 2). Students were given a list of topics, but can also choose their own topic as long as it's connected to this time period.

Students must research their topic and present it to the class. They must have a visual aspect - either a Google slide presentation, poster, etc. The presentation must last 5-10 minutes. Students can work alone or with a partner.  Students will have 4 periods to work on this in class (two this week and two next week). The project will also need to be worked on at home, as 4 periods is not enough time to complete a project of this size. Students will need to divide tasks with their partners so they can work on it at home.

How to start with a project: brainstorm ideas, do some reading, create an outline and start writing. Include photos or embed videos. I have saved a graphic organizer in their French Google folder: "le projet: organisateur graphique." Other options: create a game, such as kahoot, for the presentation, add some music from the time period, wear a costume, etc.

Students must include a list of resources that they used (website addresses and book titles). To the left of this page, there are some website links connected to this time period.

Reading: This week we will be continuing with the book, and plan to read pages 73-100 this week.

General: Thank you to parents who came to the parent-teacher interviews. If you were unable to attend, you can contact me anytime via email.

This week: Novel study: "La valise d'Hana" by Karen Levine. We are reading this novel in class and discussing. Each student received a duo-tang with the questions for the entire book that is kept in the classroom. There are a few questions to answer each class, and I indicate each day which questions are mandatory.

Challenge: How to get an A? I've told the students that if they want to get an A for this unit, they can complete all questions in their duo-tangs. The books must stay in the classroom, but the book is available at the Ottawa public library or they can purchase a copy. The questions have been uploaded to their Google French folder.

Here is a link to the book for purchase. A pdf copy costs $10.99.
